I ran out of here in 1990 because at that time I thought I would never be able to make a ‘home for me here. I doubted that the concept of “Irishness” was elastic enough to stretch around a person like me.
I returned in 1995 for a visit – but stayed, because I found a country in the process of great change. And I’ve been privileged to see that change happen.
